DIOGO MOREIRA TAKES THE OVERALL VICTORY IN THE GP OF CATALUNYA

Alcarras (Spain) 8 May 2022 – After the first race on Saturday, today the second round of the 2022 FIM Supermoto World Championship continued on the Circuit of Alcarras in the region of Catalunya, Spain. With the last preparations done on the track, many spectators alongside the track it was going to be a perfect race day for all Supermoto lovers. After some fantastic racing all day, it was SGR Grau Racing rider Diogo Moreira who the overall victory in the S1GP class of the GP of Catalunya. Diogo Moreira was also the best Rookie rider.

S1GP FastRace

At 13:30 hours the lights dropped for the FastRace of the S1GP class here at the Circuit of Alcarras, located in the region of Catalunya. At the start it was SGR Grau Racing rider Diogo Moreira who was fastest in the first corner, followed by KTM rider Jaume Gaya Hernandez and L30 Racing TM Factory rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt. Schmidt on his turn was followed by another SGR Grau rider Ferran Cardus. Fifth place was KTM MTR rider Lukas Hollbacher in front of SMX ASD rider Thomas Chareyre. As in RaceOne yesterday, Diogo Moreira directly pulled away from the rest of the field and after a few laps the Brazilian/Spanish Moto3 rider had a comfortable lead towards the competition. Behind the leader the battle was intens as Lukas Hollbacher climbed through the field with first passing Ferran Cardus and a few laps later Marc-Reiner Schmidt. With Moreira out of sight, two KTM riders were fighting for the second position in the race. Lap by lap Hollbacher kept pushing towards Gaya Hernandez and with three laps to go the Austrian baker managed to take second position in the race. Behind the top three Schmidt successfully passed Cardus and was now in fourth position. The leader in the championship was getting closer and closer each lap but time ran out in the FastRace to attack Gaya Hernandez. Behind Cardus it was Thomas Chareyre in sixth position. The multiple champion couldn’t find the right rhythm and had to settle for sixth. In front nothing changed anymore and Diogo Moreira won his second race in Alcarras. Second place was for Lukas Hollbacher and the last position in the top three was for Jaume Gaya Hernandez.

S1GP SuperFinal

Last race of the day was the Superfinal for the S1GP class. At the start it was SGR Grau Racing rider Diogo Moreira who took the hole shot again in front of KTM MTR rider Lukas Hollbacher and L30 Racing TM Factory rider Marc-Reiner Schmidt. Fourth position was for SGR Grau rider Ferran Cardus in front of KTM rider Jaume Gaya Hernandez and SMX ASD rider Thomas Chareyre. Moreira was again very quick and soon the famous gap with the rest of the field was there but in lap four everything changed when Moreira made an mistake and crashed in one of the high speed corners of the track. Moreira quickly restarted his bike but the Moto3 rider was in fifth position when he was back on track. The lead was now in the hands of Lukas Hollbacher who pushed hard and left the others behind. The battle for second was between Cardus and Schmidt who changed positions every two laps. Behind the top, Gaya Hernandez and Chareyre were having their own fight but today the Spanish rider was the strongest one and kept Chareyre behind him all the race. Moreira was again on fire and closed in very quickly on Schmidt and Cardus. With four laps to go Moreira passed first Schmidt and then Cardus making him second again in the race. This was also the sign for Hollbacher to put up the speed as Moreira was closing in fast. With some fast last laps Lukas Hollbacher kept out of the hands of Moreira and took the victory in the Superfinal. Diogo Moreira finished in second and Ferran Cardus took the last place in the top three. With two victories in Alcarras and a second place Diogo Moreira was the overall winner of the GP of Catalunya in the S1GP class and he was also the best Rookie.
